Our cause
Central to our journey is our goal to raise awareness and funds for two amazing UK based charities – Project Seagrass, an environmental charity devoted to the conservation of global seagrass ecosystems which are essential to keeping our oceans and planet healthy, and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, a local charity providing vital support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across Berkshire.
ABOUT PROJECT SEAGRASS
Project Seagrass is an environmental charity devoted to the conservation of global seagrass ecosystems through research, community and action. Seagrasses are marine plants that live in shallow, sheltered areas around our coast. They provide a variety of essential ecosystems, including storing carbon, producing oxygen, stabilising our coastlines, improving the water quality and clarity of our oceans, and increasing ocean biodiversity. However, in the UK we have lost more than 90% of our seagrass in the last century with global estimates suggesting we lose a football fields worth every 30 minutes. Project Seagrass seeks to lead societal change to enable the recognition, recovery and resilience of seagrass ecosystems globally.
ABOUT ALEXANDER DEVINE CHILDREN'S HOSPICE SERVICE
Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is a charity local to Maidenhead that provides essential support to families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across Berkshire and the surrounding counties. The hospice was founded by Fiona and John Devine in 2007 after the lost their 8 year olf boy, Alexander, to a four and a half year battle with cancer. Since then, the hospice has provided vital help to hundreds of children and their families, through respite care, specialist play, symptom management, family support, end of life care and bereavement support.
OUR INVOLVEMENT
Throughout our campaign, we will be working closely with Project Seagrass and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service to help raise awareness and funding for their causes. Upon our return from Antigua, we will donate all proceeds from the resale of our equipment directly to the charities.
